Christian Village
Christian Village of Abilene is a retirement village of 59 apartments located at 633 E. N. 19th St. on four acres of the Abilene Christian University campus. This location provides a perfect blend between the quiet of a residential area with accessibility to city services. A variety of shopping, dining, financial and medical services can be found within just a few blocks. University Church of Christ and Hillcrest Church of Christ are only four blocks and six blocks away, respectively.
The Village was established by UCC as a non-profit organization to provide safe, affordable homes for retirees 62 and older. For 15 years after it opened in 1986, the Village was under the guidance of the UCC elders who acted as trustees. Today an independent board of trustees oversee the facility, which is directed by Linda Mitchell, administrator.
Residents live in private apartments but are close enough to other occupants to share entertainment, meals and worship. Residents often enjoy birthday parties, game nights, morning coffee, walks around the ACU walking trail, an evening of quilting, golf at a local golf course, or shopping trips to the mall. Several residents and UCC members meet monthly on first Monday for quilting day making quilts that are donated to non-profit causes for children and adults.
