Seniors
Many Christians have found University Church of Christ to be a great church home during their retirement years.
Outlets abound for senior members to be involved in ministries, classes and events. Retirees are valued volunteers at the Christian Service Center, providing aid to needy families in the community. Others teach English in ESL classes, make quilts, tutor elementary-age children, pack goodies for military men and women, entertain college students. Some teach Bible classes, and some journey to foreign lands on mission campaigns.
Retired members are given royal treatment at several social events. Young at Heart luncheons honor widows, widowers and other senior singles, while Seasoned Sweethearts dinners are given for married couples where one in the marriage has reached age 75. Study opportunities are found in ladies’ Bible class on Wednesday and a senior men’s class on Sunday.
Friendships are formed easily among the retirees, who welcome new members and newly widowed ones to their fellowship. Seniors find kinship while getting together to eat at a restaurant, enjoy a movie, play or concert.
The church provides valet parking, handicapped parking, ramps, elevator and hearing assistance technology, as well as a covered port for dropping off passengers at an entrance designed for easy access. Shuttle van service brings residents of nearby retirement centers to worship and church events.
