The International Student

New students from foreign countries who come to ACU every semester often need to improve their English or need help with their course work. UCC offers international students a chance for one-on-one tutoring. Every Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. the students meet with their assigned tutors in the MAC to converse in English using Bible-based materials, or the Bible itself.

If you would like to be a tutor, all that is required is that you are a Christian, a commitment to regular attendance for one semester, and agreement to generally follow the study materials provided. No special training is required, but new tutors are given a “suggestions” handout, and the coordinator is always on-hand to assist if needed.

Suppers:

Students enrolled in the ESL program at ACU are invited to eat supper free every Wednesday night at the UCC Wednesday night suppers from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tutors who are ACU students may also eat free. In the summers, the ESL tutors coordinate and prepare the Wednesday night meal themselves so that the students can continue to come for a free meal before class.

Outings:

Especially in the summers, ESL participants are invited on various outings to such places as the Abilene Zoo, Grace and Frontier Texas Museums, Abilene State Park and other activities. Tutors who can do so are encouraged to join in these outings.
