The primary goal of Prison Missions is to reach out to the incarcerated with the Gospel. Our secondary goal is to restore the inmate as a citizen. UCC is at the center of efforts at the John Middleton Unit providing Bibles and classes in both English and Spanish.
Through the outreach work at Middleton we have baptized more than 7,500 men into Christ in the last 10 years. The ministry offers 33 classes a week, eight of which are taught by Hal Howell, UCC’s Prison Minister.
Volunteers are welcome and needed for this work. Right now we need help with the third Wednesday night service. If you would like to speak, talk with or pray with inmates during the service, or help with the baptisms, we have a place for you.
We also need help in our Chapel Library and to sort through I-60 forms (inmate requests). Volunteers are needed to visit men in solitary confinement who want a chaplain’s visit. Mature but younger male volunteers are needed to take over a class as some of our volunteers are getting older.
