Young at Heart Ministry
Young at Heart (YAH) is a ministry of University Church of Christ that serves widows, widowers and others who are home alone. Quarterly events allow you to connect with one another during a period of fellowship that includes lunch, entertainment and a gift.
The YAH bus provides transportation from University Place to Sunday and Wednesday church services and to the quarterly functions that have been conducted at the Abilene Country Club (usually for a Christmas program), the Abilene Woman’s Club, Hunter Welcome Center, The Home Place and other places that can accommodate our group.
During summer months, the ministry provides lawn mowing for YAH participants who live in their own homes. YAH volunteers are available to participants by telephone. Volunteers meet once a month for breakfast at the Towne Crier to plan future events.
New volunteers are always welcomed to help organize events, mail invitations or prepare gifts, serve as emcee, plan entertainment and socialize with participants at the functions. Volunteers pay for their own meal plus one guest, if possible. The YAH guests do not pay for any of the functions.
