The University Church of Christ in Abilene, TX is prayerfully seeking a full-time youth minister: a man to mentor, teach and guide our middle and high school students as they grow in Christ.
A youth minister is arguably the highest valued minister on a church staff, because they are leading the demographic that is first forming their Faith.
The statistics about young Christians leaving the church as they enter their 20’s are disheartening, and we believe proactive youth ministry plays a crucial role in developing a deep Faith in teens. In addition, we believe youth ministry should reach beyond classes and living rooms and equip our teens to live the calling of Jesus in the present.
Our vision should lead a youth ministry that is community-focused. Our youth ministry should not be isolated but, an active part of the larger community.
Our youth minister be should able to teach Bible classes, and plan mission trips, and more. In addition , we are looking for a youth minister who will integrate closely with a team of parents and church volunteers to pray for the teens and to plan the logistics of events designed to bring students closer to Christ. The minister will be able to delegate details to this support team so as to allow the youth minister more time to set the vision for the ministry, spend with teens, prepare Bible lessons, and guide students in spiritual formation, which we believe to be his most important role. This model also calls other adults to step up and be involved in the lives of our teens, helping to anchor them in our Christian family and creating multiple layers of community.
